Hey dancers and welcome to “Dance Tips with Brittany”!
Today we are continuing on perfecting that pirouette preparation. It is important to have a strong preparation because that sets the tone of the rest of the pirouette. You must have a strong preparation in the parallel 4th position prep to push off the ground.
Today’s Tip is:
Weight forward, strong, and balanced
It is very common to overlook the preparation and just go up into the pirouette praying. As we have been discussing in the last few lessons, it is a science and there are specific steps we need to follow to continue improving our pirouettes.
In parallel 4th position or our lunge prep before a parallel pirouette, we need to have
- Our weight forward but brace balance with the back leg
- A strong stance on the front leg
- And a balanced placed upper body and posture
So first bring your weight forward into the front leg. But you can use your back leg to help brace your balance. Now lift that back leg though because you want to be able to support yourself on your front leg.
2nd, we need a strong stance on the front leg.
We need to strengthen that front leg to follow this tip. Let’s do 1-legged lunges forward to focus on the quad, inner thigh, and hamstring. 5 on each side. Let’s go!
1, 2, 3, 4, 5
Second side
1, 2, 3, 4, 5
And 3rd, fix your posture to complete the top half of your body.
There it is folks!
Weight forward, strong, and balanced to have a successful pirouette preparation.
Keep working on your lunges and strengthening the legs so that you’d be able to hold your ground if someone tried to tip you over. You’ve got this! Tell me all about your progress in the comments below!
