Hey dancers, Welcome to Dance Tips with Brittany! Happy New Years Eve Eve! Hope you all had a wonderful holiday season and we are closing out 2020. I know it was a crazy year and there have been a lot of curve balls. Today we are talking about how to take this year of crud, ball it up, and turn 2021 into your year! As much as you felt out of control in 2020, you have control of your happiness and your choices. I am a firm believer in doing something to better myself everyday and want to share with you. Even if you are having a lousy day, doing something to better yourself can give you energy, make you proud, and motivation for the next activity.
Today’s tip is:
Make yourself better in day to day activities
Find something in your daily life to turn you into a better dancer and athlete. Here are a couple ideas:
- Hold high releve while brushing your teeth
- Stretch your lunge stretch while watching tv
- When waiting in the lunch line or at a check out – Tuck your pelvis, by squeezing the booty and engaging your lower abdominals.
- Hold a plank while reading homework
- On zoom school – sit up tall and and engage the abs
The one I encourage you to do is tuck the pelvis when standing around or hanging out. The more you stand like this, the longer it will take to get abs keep injuries away. Does your back ever start to hurt when you’ve been shopping for a long time?
My mom and I call it shopper’s back. It is (most likely) because your abs are released and gravity is putting pressure into your lower back. Consider putting your body in line and engaging your muscles.
It can be hard to remember all the time but start to put it in your daily routine, then when you’re standing around in the studio waiting for the next exercise, then it will resonate on the stage.
Getting stronger while hanging out with your friends seems pretty cool to me! Let me know in the comments below other creative ways to enhance your daily life!
